Today on #HolocaustMemorialDay I remember my beautiful, stylish great aunt Ida Hofferova who was murdered in the Holocaust. I loved this photo as a child which was in my father's photo album, but didn't know who she was or what had happened to her until I embarked on the research for my book #TheWritingOnTheWall @macmillanaus. Ida was with her two sisters Laura and Klara, when they were taken to the Blagvoshchina forest in Maly Trostinec, forced to undress and stand on the edge of a newly dug pit. There they were shot by SS officers, their bodies falling into the pit. Tractors later flattened the ground.
Meeting and interviewing Jacinda Ardern was a landmark day. I had never met a politician with such integrity. She was the real deal, so inspiring. I know in standing down today Jacinda has very good reasons but the loss will be great not just for New Zealand but for all of us
Like many Brits I have deep-seated memories of being awed by Simon Callow and Paul Scofield in the National Theatre production of #Amadeus directed by Peter Hall back in 1979….and here in Sydney decades later the superb #MichaelSheen, @rahelromahn and director @craigilott were thrilling me all over again with this immense play and a towering production at @sydneyoperahouse. Standing ovation was unanimous…book now! 👏👏👏
